Carole Jene Eldridge was born on May 23, 1935 in Ottumwa, IA to Ronald and Helen McCreedy Yoder. Her early years were spent attending school in Sigourney where she graduated with the Sigourney High School Class of 1953. Carole furthered her education, attending AIB and the University of Iowa where she worked as a secretary for the college. During her time at the University of Iowa she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority as well as the Scottish Highlanders. After college, her path in life took her to St. Louis where she became a loving mother to a son, Jeff. Upon returning to Sigourney, IA she met and fell in love with Larry Eldridge. Carole and Larry were married in March of 1967. This was the first chapter in a story that lasted over 53 years. Larry treated Jeff as his son from the beginning and shortly after made it official through adoption. Carole settled into her role as a loving mother and wife. She was meticulous with the care of her house and yard. Together Larry and Carole restored their original home that was built in 1871 to its original beauty. Carole was an active member of the Sigourney Christian Church and enjoyed collecting quilts and antiques. With Larry's retirement the two became actively involved in the Sigourney Country Club where Carole spent many hours with Larry planting flowers, caring for the facility, and helping Larry with whatever was needed. Carole was a wonderful friend and confidant to many, but above all she was a devoted and loving wife. Her love and dedication to her husband and her unending support for her family and friends will be missed, but never forgotten.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jeff Eldridge.
Left to share her story is her loving husband, Larry Eldridge; three sisters-in-law, Donna Adam of Sigourney, IA, Barb (Rex) Appleget of Cedar Rapids, IA and Linda (Dyle) VanFleet of Stockport, IA; as well as many extended family and a host of friends.
