Carolyn Joan (McCarty) Gaskell Obituary (1941

Carolyn J. Gaskell, 74, of Douds died Friday morning December 18, 2015 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. She was born April, 17, 1941 at Mt. Zion to Thomas and Madeline Slutts McCarty and married Louis K. Barrow. They divorced. She married James E. Gaskell April 18, 1964. He died April 27, 1985. Carolyn grew up in Mt. Zion, graduated from Keosauqua High School and was a homemaker. She lived in Van Buren County, the past several years in Douds. Surviving are three daughters, Debra Phipps (Carl) of Ottumwa, Joanna Heckethorn (JoeJoe) of Stockport and April Gentry (James) of Douds, two sons, Roy Barrow (Gianna) of Bonaparte and Timothy Gaskell (Robin) of Keosauqua, eight grandchildren, Heath Barrow (Amber), Abbe Ball (Ryan), Thunder and Timber Gaskell, Callum and Anna Beebe and Peyton and Preston Gentry, four great-grandchildren, Joseph, David, Hannah and Elizabeth Barrow, three brothers, Les McCarty (Betty) of Pittsburg, Gary McCarty of Colorado Springs, CO, and Donnie McCarty of Monroe, LA, a sister, Audrey McCarty of Colorado Springs, CO, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bob, Jim, Art and Dick McCarty and two sisters, Verna Coleman and LaVena Duncan Carolyn's body has been cremated. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4 P.M. Sunday December 20, 2015 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. A celebration of life service will be at a later date with burial of cremains in Pittsburg Cemetery.
