Carolyn Emma Peacock was born on July 11, 1936, in rural Van Buren County to Robert and Gladys Booth McDonough. She attended country school where her love of education and teaching began. Carolyn was a 1954 graduate of Douds High School and went on to further her education at Parsons College, graduating with a degree in elementary education. In 1957 she married the love of her life, Royale Peacock. Together they became the loving parents of a daughter, Diane and made their home near Lebanon.

Carolyn shaped the minds of many children as she taught early childhood education in both Birmingham and Douds. After many years of dedication to education she retired but remained active, working for a daycare in Birmingham and for Books Are Fun. After Royale’s death in 1993, Carolyn remained active and continued to cherish time spent with her growing family.

In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and quilting, and in her later years crafting greeting cards. She was never afraid to try any size jigsaw puzzle and never missed an opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family and many friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Royale (1993).

Left to share her story is her daughter, Diane (Bob) Waugh of Libertyville, IA; two grandchildren, Jeremy Waugh of Libertyville, IA and Jessica (Clint) Orth of Douds, IA; five great grandchildren, Kaylee and Geoffry Orth and Cleo, Cypress, and Fiona Waugh; two brothers, Ed (Judy) McDonough of Douds, IA and Mike (Janice) McDonough of Ottumwa, IA, as well as many extended family and friends.
