Gene Snyder was born on June 25, 1939, in Birmingham, IA to Robert and Lucille Meiret Snyder. His early years fostered a love for Van Buren County that would remain with him for the rest of his life. Gene graduated from Birmingham High School and immediately entered the workforce. He began working for J and B Plastics and spent some time working in plastic manufacturing in Bloomfield. On April 7, 1962, he married the love of his life, Judy Neff. This was the first chapter in a story that lasted over 63 years. Together they became the loving parents of two daughters, Kim and Dena.

Gene and Judy moved to Olathe, KS in 1967 where he continued his career in plastic manufacturing. It was in Kansas where Gene started his own business in partnership with Dave Hill who was not only a partner in business but became a close friend. After a successful career in Kansas their love for Van Buren County called them home. He returned and started Eagle Plastics which he ran until his retirement in 2005.

Gene had a love for all things outdoors. He always felt at home in Van Buren County near the river. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to garden and find mushrooms which he would gladly share the fruits of his harvest with family and friends. Gene was a talents pool player and played on several pool leagues throughout his life. He and Judy enjoyed trips to Texas during the cold winter months and cherish long motorcycle rides together. Gene was a sports fan, never missing an opportunity to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Kansas City Chiefs. He cared deeply for his family and the many he called friend.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dean Snyder and a niece, Carol Ann Snyder.

Left to share his story are his two daughters, Kim (Dale) Hornberg and Dena Snyder; three grandsons, Jesse Snyder, Zach (Courtney) Hornberg, and Tanner (Nicky) Hornberg; seven great grandchildren, Bennett, Isla, Lexi, Kane, Kaycee, Kynlee, and Kolson, as well and many extended family and many, many friends.
