Gerald "Gary" Nelson Obituary (1940

Gerald "Gary" Nelson, 78, of Keosauqua, Iowa passed away on October 17, 2018 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa. He was born on February 4, 1940 in Fairfield, Iowa to Roy and Birdie Bailey Nelson. He graduated from Birmingham High School. Gary enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and especially enjoyed arrowhead hunting. He is survived by his longtime partner, Debra Nelson of Keosauqua, Iowa; three sons, Roy Nelson of Douds, Iowa, Gary Nelson of Birmingham, Iowa, Jeremy (Lacie) Cheely of Washington, Kansas; two daughters, Tammy Kerr (Michael Billups) of Douds, Iowa, Joyce (Darren) Oilar of Kahoka, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Garrett Nelson, Justan Nelson, Jacob Oilar, Alexis Oilar, Daryan Cheely, Christian Cheely, Connor Cheely, Keira Cheely, Kyndel Cheely, Jordon Billups, Jackie Poe; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Elias Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Birdie Nelson; and a granddaughter, Ava Cheely. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. No services are planned at this time.
