Irene Moore Obituary (1930 - 2022)

Irene Moore, 91, of Douds, IA and formerly of Eldon, IA passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Jefferson County Health Care Center. As were her wishes, her body has been cremated. A time to share stories and celebrate her life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, in the basement of the Eldon Christian Church in Eldon, IA. Burial will be held privately in the Eldon Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Irene's honor may be directed to EveryStep Hospice. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Ival Irene Moore was born on November 19, 1930, in rural Davis County, IA to Marvin and Mildred Parker Lanman. She attended school in Selma and graduated with the class of 1948. Irene soon met a young soldier returning form WWII named David "Rex" Moore. The two were married in Lancaster, MO on October 9, 1948, and remained by each other's side from that day forward. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Rex's passing in 2016. Together they became the loving parents of four children: Richard, Ron, Robert, and Rhonda. When the children were young, Irene was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. As time passed and the children got older, she began working outside the home at Cardinal Foods in Eldon as a cashier and bookkeeper. Irene and Rex always loved to travel and had no problem taking off on a Friday after work on short notice. She would often talk about their trips to Laughlin, NE and Deadwood, SD or going out to visit her sister in Arizona. Many weekends were spent with a quick getaway to Osage Beach or Branson, MO. Irene stayed busy socially as well, taking bus trips, bowling league, helping with Eldon Senior Meals, and of course her "Card Club" meeting with her friends. She was also an active member of the Eldon First Baptist Church until its closing, and then the Eldon Christian Church. She always enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Irene called Eldon home for most of her life until moving to Douds, IA in 2010. Irene cared deeply for her family, her community, and her friends. She will be honored and remembered by the many family and friends she made along the way. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rex Moore (2016); two children, Richard and Rhonda Moore; a grandson, Corey Moore and one sister, Lucille Garmon. Left to share her story are her children, Rob (Sherri) Moore of Eldon, IA, Ron Moore of Iowa City, IA; a daughter-in-law, Taffa Moore of Selma, IA; six grandchildren, Scott (Leslie) Moore, Ryan (Amber) Fritz, Nathan (Analee) Moore, Ian (Ashley) Moore, Laci (Brandon) Warren, and Lindsay Moore (Quinn Vesely); eleven great grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd (Nancy) Lanman of Bloomfield, IA, as well as many extended family and friends.
