Jerry Ray Sapp, son of Oscar and Anna "Allman" Sapp, was born January 15, 1943 in Ottumwa, IA. He grew up on Caster Street in Eldon not realizing that the house next door would eventually be the home in which he would raise his family. Jerry graduated from high school in 1961 with the first class to graduate from the new Cardinal School District Building. After graduation, he began working for the Rock Island Railroad until being drafted into the Army in December of 1964. He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War, later returning to Fort Sill, OK for missile training and eventually to Blanding, UT to test fire the Pershing Missile. Jerry was Honorably Discharged in November of 1966 and returned home to Eldon. On June 30, 1968 he married the love of his life, Jane Vass, at the Eldon United Methodist Church. Over the next 47 years, they created many memories, which included sharing the joy of becoming loving parents. They spent a short time in Colona, IL while Jerry worked for Warning Lights of Illinois. Jerry eventually took a job with Wausau Homes in Ottumwa and returned home to Eldon. Wausau Homes eventually moved out of Ottumwa but Jerry and the family elected to stay. He began working for Golden Furrow in Eldon, where he would remain a valued employee for 28 years. Jerry covered thousands of acres during his time with Golden Furrow. He enjoyed motorcycles, NASCAR, and time spent at the river camping and fishing. As time passed, and his family grew with the addition of grandchildren, he added attending his grandchildren's activities to his list of favorites. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Nicole Sapp; two brothers, Robert and William Sapp, as well as two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Margaret Sapp.
Left to honor his memory is his loving wife, Jane Sapp of Eldon; two children, Paul Sapp of Cedar Falls, IA and Stacie Bryant of Eldon; two grandsons, Blaine and Cale Bryant; one brother, Jack Sapp of Donnellson, IA; a sister-in-law, Lucille Sapp of Eldon, as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
