Davenport, Iowa

Lewis “Lewie” Burton Faris, 56, of Davenport, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton, with Frosty VanVorst officiating. Memorials in Lewis’s honor may be made to the Scott County Humane Society in Davenport and brought to the graveside service or mailed to the family at 1535 Primrose Drive SE, Altoona, IA 50009.

Lewie was born February 13, 1970 to Billy Burton Faris and Louise (Auntie Wheez) Kathryn (Stone) Faris of Davenport, Iowa. He was an only child, but he never exhibited the usual spoiled, bratty only child traits as his cousins always treated him as their baby brother and never let him get by with anything.

After graduating from high school in Davenport, Lewie was accepted to Iowa State University, where he was enrolled in Aerospace Engineering. His mother was sad to see her baby boy leave the nest but excited for his future. Unfortunately, the untimely death of Lewie's father prevented him from attending even one class at ISU as he moved back home to assist his mother.

Lewie lived in Davenport in the same house all 56 years of his life. He was a wiz at math like his mom and even attended the college she did for accounting. Although Lewie loved being in an accounting position, the company he worked for was sold to an overseas corporation. After training his replacement, Lewie found himself jobless in March 2020. He eventually got a job working at the courthouse in a security position. He did such a great job of that, he soon found himself in the DMV department. Lewie really missed being an accountant but the ladies he worked with at the DMV soon showed him he fully belonged with them. He loved his job there! Thank you, Ladies, for enriching his life and bringing him out of his reclusive shell!

Though Lewie lived in Davenport his whole life, it didn't mean he wasn't a well rounded individual. He was well traveled, even taking his mother along. He loved and adored his mother, yet he wasn't a "mama's boy". He looked like a total geek yet deep inside he was a true gearhead. Many of his excursions away from Davenport involved cars; car shows, drag racing, ect.

Lewie loved his family dearly. Always quiet yet constantly observant. An unassuming character with a quiet demeanor, he would surprise and impress his cousins with his quick wit and dry sense of humor.

Lewie was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his trusted sidekick, wonder dog Shelby and his cousins, Connie (Tom) Hayes, Elsberry, Mo; Alvin (Sheri) Stone, Altoona, Ia; Jim (Karen) Stone, Fairfield, Ia; Lucinda Stone, Woolstock, Ia and Ann (Brian) VanDerSloot, Center Point, Ia.

As a self-proclaimed bachelor, Lewie loved being around people. The family is still baffled why he never settled down as you don't find a man any better than Lewie! Kind, intelligent and gentle but no push over. You will be greatly missed Lewie! Rest in peace. Your journey is done.
