Marcella Arndt Obituary (1932

Fairfield Marcella E. " Sally" Arndt, age 81 of Fairfield died Monday, January 27, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She was the sixth of seven children born to Fred and Veronica Menke Bentler. Sally was born May 21, 1932 in Salem, Iowa. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1950. She was employed as a bookkeeper at the Mount Hamill Elevator for several years. Sally married Francis J. Arndt on November 18, 1961 at Saint John''s Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. Sally moved to Fairfield after here marriage and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for over 50 years. She spent many years helping with funeral dinners at St. Mary''s, volunteering at Parkview Care Center, The Lord''s Cupboard, and the Bargain Box. She did housekeeping for many years. She was an avid card player with her family. She loved to walk the country roads near her home in rural Fairfield and often referred to it as her own heaven on earth. She was a dedicated gardener, homemaker and word-search fan. She enjoyed watching the Fairfield High School basketball games. Sally often stated that her greatest accomplishments were her marriage of 52 years and the three children she and Frank raised. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Alphonse Bentler and Gervase Bentler and one sister Pauline Pieper. She is survived by her husband Frank and children Joe (Ronda) Arndt of Fairfield; Jean (Milton) Audas of Muscatine, Iowa and Richard (Kari) Arndt of Sauk City, Wisconsin, two grandchildren and two sisters Roselita Brown, Eileen Hellman and a brother Raymond Bentler. A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 1 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield with Father Nick Adam officiating. A Rosary will be recited on Friday at 5:00 P.M. at St. Mary Church with visitation of family and friends to follow until 7:30 P.M. Cremation has been accorded and interment of cremains will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be directed to the Cancer Fund. Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
