Nathan Forrest Adkins was born on November 20, 1971 in Ft. Madison, Iowa to David and Mary (Benjamin) Adkins and instantly became the center of their universe. He grew up in Primrose and enjoyed a carefree life filled with the freedom to develop skills and interests that brought him joy throughout his entire life, including a love of hunting and fishing and restoring muscle cars, trucks, and the occasional gas pump. His sense of wonder and adventure secured him lifelong friendships both as a child and an adult. Nathan knew no strangers, and that fact filled his life with people he loved and who loved him. Nate graduated from Central Lee High School in 1990, attended Iowa State University for one year, as well as the University of Iowa for one year. Fate called to him and he secured a job with Van Buren Telephone in 1992 over a cup of coffee with Herb Saunders, a man he greatly admired. He worked there for 34 years and became the go-to guy for their customers, providing knowledgeable and efficient service that was always delivered with his trademark smile.

In 1996, he met, befriended, and fell in love with a girl at T&C in Keosauqua, a year later he asked her to marry him, and together with Teresa (Kisling) he built a beautiful life. He took very seriously the message he received from his Grandma Gladys and did everything in his power to provide a life of security and love to their sons, Mitchell Norman (born in 1999) and Thomas David (born in 2002). His family was the center of his universe, and he talked daily to his dad, who served as the best man in his wedding, as well as his sister, Ursula, whom he loved with all his heart. His mom, Mary was the source of invaluable insight, support, and guidance on a thousand different topics and created a warm home that brought so much joy and family time making memories around the kitchen table.

Nate was preceded in death by his grandparents Forrest and Nedra, and Johnnie and Gladys, as well as his in-laws, Norman and Jane Kisling, and an aunt, Tonya Adkins.

Those who will carry on his legacy include his wife, Teresa (Stockport), his sons, Mitchell (Mt. Pleasant), and Thomas (Stockport), his parents, David and Mary Adkins (Primrose), a sister, Ursula Marquis (Dan of Granger) and their daughters Monroe (9) and Rowan (3). His brother-in-law, Mike (Kim) of Stockport and their three sons Zachery (Kade and Boyd of Stockport), Corbin (Birmingham), and Colton (Abby of Stockport). He also leaves behind his closest friends, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life, as well as a community whose outpouring of love is a testament to the man he was and a life well lived.
