Treva Hawbaker Obituary (1927

Treva Jean Hawbaker, 93, died on December 28, 2020, at Keosauqua Health Care Center. She was born on October 29, 1927, in rural Hillsboro, Iowa, to Roy and Mina Newbold Ridgeway. Treva graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1945. She married Dewey Blake Phelps on August 8, 1945. Together they farmed from 1945 - 1965. Blake and Treva had four children, Jean, Jodie, Jackie, and Wayne. Treva later married John Hawbaker on March 12, 1977. On the farm, Treva was an avid gardener. She enjoyed dancing and belonged to a clogging dance club while in Minnesota. Treva also liked to water ski, golf, and do needlepoint. She was a great cook and loved preparing meals for her family. She is survived by three daughters, Jean Kooda of Richardson, Texas, Jodie Peters of Norman, Oklahoma, Jackie Deutsch of Portage, Michigan; a son, Wayne Phelps (Janet) of Stockport, Iowa; six grandchildren, Craig Kooda (Jill) of Plano, Texas, Jon Phelps of Ankeny, Iowa, Jeff Phelps (Kerri) of Stockport, Iowa, Spencer Peters of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cody Deutsch of Portage, Michigan, Trevor Deutsch of Paw Paw, Michigan; six great-grandchildren, Kyle and Carson Kooda, Emma and Dean Phelps, Jack and Cael Phelps; Cameron and Taylor Deutsch; two sisters, Leota Boyce of Camdenton, Missouri, Sharon Conner of Port Byron, Illinois; and a brother, Tom Ridgeway of Anamosa, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mina Ridgeway; and husbands, John Hawbaker and Blake Phelps; and two brothers, Rex Ridgeway, and Gary Ridgeway. A private family funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua. Burial will be at Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, Iowa. No visitation is planned. A memorial has been established in her memory to the Hillsboro-Harrisburg Baptist Church and can be mailed to the Pedrick Funeral Home, P.O. Box 455, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.
